"MORE THAN EVER" - Marco Tranchina / Smät Five - Ubuntu Music 2022

" This all-Italian quintet recorded in London , indeed its five members are resident here and performing in local clubs and on tour. They handle leader Tranchina's compositions with considerable zest give that he wrote them in mid-pandemic amid some personal health issues,"feeling lost'. he said, while seeking to pay homage to his early influences. That said there's nothing here that is consciously retro in style or approach. This is Modern Jazz by any measure. Tranchina's note emphasises his interest in incorporating home-country motif alongside the fairly eclectic stylistic range that he offers. It's all here and has definitely its own richness. Worth investigating  Peter Vacher  - 4 Stars Review on Jazzwise Magazine - March 2022

”Classy tunes and great playing on a varied set of acoustic modern jazz delivered with an original twist".    - Mike Hobart Jazz critic at Financial Times

"We need class like this - More Than Ever. In a year when outstanding musical output is showing just how productive and creative artists can be when faced with diversity, pianist and composer Marco Tranchina delivers the delightful More Than Ever.
On More Than Ever, Tranchina demonstrates outstanding skills in composing, performing, leading, and improvising. This is jazz that is rhythmically and melodically both solid and exciting. Clearly, this is a group that listens to each other, swapping musical ideas and motifs into a stunning whole There is something intrinsically British about this album, and yet the Italian roots of all five musicians shine through. Ubuntu has a major find on its hands and this is one album to keep exploring as it delivers more on each hearing."  - Hilary Robertson -  5-stars review @ http://kindofjazz.com/index.php/component/k2/706-marco-tranchina-more-than-ever

"The quality of musicianship on the album is top-notch while Marco Tranchina's compositions make for rewarding listening whether one can distinguish the music theory devices or not, and in common with much great art, the music is enjoyable on many levels."

"There is a strong connection between the players, and the album is rhythmically solid, anchored in bebop and with lyricism right the way through.it is a happy union that has happened for the label and the band. Tranchina has played many genres of music, but his first love is jazz, and on this album, it shows. Yet there is enough rock, Latin and classical reference to please even the pernicketiest of listeners. This has the feel of musicians working well with each other and also a sense of perhaps even greater exploration to come."

"LADY LUCK" - Trailer Music
'Marco wrote some brilliant music for the trailer of my award winning short film ‘Lady Luck,’ which was featured recently in the national press. He was a pleasure to work with, creatively nailing the brief by the required deadline.
I am looking forward to future collaborations with him'   - Jo Lewis (Director Breakneck Films).
